Why Cybercab matters
Consumer FSD proves the software. Cybercab productizes the economics: denser seating for passengers, inductive charging, and a chassis that never needed a driver’s cockpit. That is how robotaxi margins work at fleet scale — and why Tesla is building a dedicated vehicle instead of forever converting Model Ys.
Production status (September 2026)
First units began in February 2026. Volume ramp is underway at Giga Texas. Meanwhile, Tesla Robotaxi service runs Model Y vehicles in geofenced U.S. cities — the operational rehearsal for unsupervised Cybercab fleets.
